8. Realise Your Childhood Dream

After 12 years at school.. I went and volunteered at the playgroup for The Centre for Cerebral Palsy. I was so nervous before hand and worked myself up into tears the night before because I didn't know how I would react around children with disabilities. That day changed my life! Cliche.. I know...

I changed my preferences for uni from architecture to physiotherapy. I wanted to help children!

4 years later and I had survived uni! I only failed one unit and really, who needs human biology anyway... Ever since helping out the one time, I continued going to help out at playgroup, started helping out with the swimming program and even was employed as a therapy assistant while uni was on break!
I had a job interview to work at the place that had made me realise what I wanted to do... I flunked it. Stuffed it up completely. I was so nervous that I didn't know what to say! My brain went to mush!

I saw an ad for a paediatric physio to work in Queensland with kids with Cerebral Palsy and applied.. I had nothing else to lose! I had the interview by phone and I was in the perfect mind set... it was awesome! I sent my resume in on Friday, was interviewed on Tuesday, references called on Wednesday and by Friday I had the job! That was it! I was moving to Hervey Bay, Queensland!

A few years ago I would NEVER had considered moving! I didn't really cry until I got on the plane.. still managed to sort of hold myself together and then bawled my eyes out once I got to the hotel in Brisbane. After finally calming down (it took about 12 hours), I knew I was in the right place. There was no way everything would have fallen into place so easily if it wasn't the right thing to do!
Unfortunately I can't show photos of the adorable kids I have worked with... but these photos were taken in my first few days in my new home!
